Eva was born on September 30, 1927 in a small town near Vienna, Austria. She was only 5 years old when Hitler came to power in 1933. On March 12, 1938, during the Anschluss, Wehrmacht troops invaded her country without encountering resistance and the Republic of Austria became a province of Germany. That day his parents were listening to the radio when they learned that the chancellor of their country had to resign because Hitler was taking power. The day after the invasion her father went to work as usual and the Nazis were waiting for him to arrest him for being a Jew. As a child she was forbidden to attend school and play with her friends because she was Jewish and her friends were Christians.
Eva tells that her aunt Marta had a very difficult time, she lived in Hungary with her mother (Eva's paternal grandmother) and they were both taken to a concentration camp. Eva's maternal and paternal grandmother were taken to the gas chamber of that concentration camp. Only Eva's aunt Marta survived.
Eva's father was imprisoned for 3 months, but was released thanks to her mother's influence in Vienna. After his release they had only 24 hours to leave Austria. They had to leave a whole life behind to try to make a new start somewhere else.
They moved immediately to Hungary and then traveled by train to Genova where they took the ship Mendoza that would take them to South America. They arrived in Uruguay on November 26, 1938.

"My father fought with the German army during World War I and even received decorations at that time, for this reason he thought that they would not take him away, but it did not help him at all.
My aunt Marta was very optimistic, she always thought that she would get out of that situation and that she would survive, and she certainly did, but with much suffering".

Eva nació el 30 de Septiembre de 1927 en una pequeña ciudad cerca de Viena, Austria. Tenía apenas 5 años cuando la ascensión de Hitler al poder en 1933. El 12 de Marzo de 1938 durante el Anschluss las tropas de la Wehrmacht invadieron su país sin encontrar resistencia y la República de Austria se convirtió en una provincia mas de Alemania. Ese día sus padres estaban escuchando la radio cuando supieron que el canciller de su país debía renunciar ya que Hitler asumía el poder. Al día siguiente de la invasión su padre fue a su trabajo como de costumbre y lo estaban esperando los Nazis para apresarlo por ser judío. De pequeña le prohibieron asistir a la escuela y jugar con sus amigas por ella ser judía y sus amigas cristianas.
Eva cuenta que su tía Marta lo paso muy difícil, ella vivía en Hungria con su madre (la abuela paterna de Eva) y ambas fueron llevadas a un campo de concentración. La abuela materna y paterna de Eva fueron llevadas a la cámara de gas de aquel campo de concentración. Solo sobrevivió Marta, la tia de Eva.
El padre de Eva estuvo 3 meses preso, fue liberado gracias a influencias que tenía su madre en Viena. Luego de su liberación solo tuvieron 24 horas para salir de Austria. Tuvieron que dejar toda una vida atrás para intentar comenzar de nuevo en otro lugar
Se trasladaron inmediatamente a Hungría para luego viajar en tren hasta Génova en donde tomaron el barco Mendoza que los llevaría a Suramerica. Llegó a Uruguay el 26 de Noviembre de 1938.

“Mi padre lucho al lado del ejercito Aleman durante la 1era. Guerra mundial y hasta recibió condecoraciones en aquel entonces, por este motivo el pensaba que no se lo llevarían, pues no le sirvió de nada.
Mi tia Marta era muy optimista, ella siempre pensó que saldría de aquella situación y que sobreviviría, y ciertamente lo logró pero con mucho sufrimiento”.
