Raquel Meizels de Davidman / Uruguay 2020
She was born on February 24, 1927 in a village called Beltz in Poland. In 1939, Beltz was occupied by the Nazis and this caused great confusion among the population. Rachel was only 12 years old when her village was invaded and her life and that of her family would change forever. They decided to escape during the night, leaving all their possessions behind, in search of salvation. After a very difficult journey, they managed to reach the Soviet Union, escaping from the Nazis. There they endured terrible suffering and hardship. The war came to an end and Raquel and her family passed through several refugee camps all over Europe. The rest of the family of both parents was exterminated in the Shoah.
They finally made it to Uruguay in 1947, where she formed a beautiful family with Aaron Davidman - also a survivor - with two children, granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Nació el 24 de febrero de 1927 en un pueblo llamado Beltz en Polonia. En 1939, Beltz fue ocupada por los nazis y esto generó una gran confusión en la población. Raquel solo tenía 12 años, cuando invadieron su pueblo y su vida y la de su familia cambiaría para siempre. Decidieron escapar durante la noche, dejando atrás todos sus bienes, en busca de la salvación. Luego de un viaje muy difícil, lograron llegar a la Unión Soviética, escapando de los nazis. Allí debieron atravesar terribles sufrimientos y privaciones. La guerra llegó a su fin y Raquel junto a su familia transitaron por varios campos de refugiados por toda Europa. El resto de la familia de ambos padres fue exterminada en la Shoá.
Finalmente consiguieron llegar a Uruguay en 1947, donde conformó una hermosa familia con Aaron Davidman -sobreviviente también- con dos hijos, nietas y bisnietos.
